I think the problem was just device driver desynchronization, if that makes sense at all. I'm probably mangling terms, but by adding a spare keyboard, and then removing it, you fixed it.

I'm also imagining EMP the character without teeth, and then you add fake teeth that don't fit right and freaking out over it.
